Look-alike warning
Could be mistaken for Rose of Sharon (Hibiscus syriacus) and Chinese Hibiscus (Hibiscus rosa-sinensis), both also sold as 'China Rose' or 'Rose of China'. To tell them apart: Flower shape: a true multi-petaled rose bloom (this plant) vs. a five-petaled hibiscus trumpet (both Hibiscus species).. These are unrelated plants with different care needs despite sharing the same common names; ASPCA's own 'Rose of China' page is actually Hibiscus syriacus, not this true rose.
Toxic to pets
Not assessed for pets

No toxic principle applies per the genus-wide ASPCA classification. Do not confuse with Hibiscus syriacus or Hibiscus rosa-sinensis, which are different plants sharing overlapping common names.

Patent / trademark
Many named cultivars derived from this species exist and some may be patented, but this was not checked this round
