Pet & Human Safety
Toxic to people and pets
Calcium oxalate crystals are present in every part of the plant (NC State Extension). If eaten, the crystals cause mouth pain, drooling and vomiting. ASPCA lists the same toxic principle and rates it toxic to dogs, cats and horses; its listed signs are oral irritation, pain and swelling of the mouth, tongue and lips, excessive drooling, vomiting (not horses), and difficulty swallowing. This app does not say any part of the plant is safe for a pet to chew or eat.
PlotAndPetal cannot tell you whether a plant you found can be eaten. Only someone who can see the plant can identify it.
