Pet & Human Safety
People: Toxic to people (low severity)Pets: Toxic to pets
Toxic to dogs, cats, and horses per ASPCA: toxic principle is indole alkaloids (lysergic acid, lysergamide, elymoclavine, and chanoclavine). Clinical signs: vomiting; large amounts of seeds may cause hallucinations. NC State Extension separately describes this species as having "low toxicity" overall but confirms it's "problematic for dogs, cats, and horses," with large seed amounts able to trigger hallucinations: both sources agree on the general picture even though NC State frames the severity as milder.
