Hardiness zones: USDA zones 3-9 for avens generally (Chicago Botanic Garden, Plant Evaluation Notes issue 41)
Light: Chicago Botanic Garden says avens prefer moist, well-drained soil in full sun to light shade, do well in full sun in cooler zones if watered well, and appreciate afternoon shade in hot, humid climates.
Water needs: moderate
Mature size: Foliage mounds run about 6 inches to a foot tall; flowering height varies by cultivar, for example 'Mai Tai' averaged 24 inches tall and wide and 'Sangria' 16 inches tall and 30 inches wide in the Chicago trial. Colorado State lists hybrid geum at 1.5 to 2 feet.
